English literature is one of the world's richest cultural traditions.
At Victoria University of Wellington you'll get exposure to a huge variety of novels, plays and poetry written in English. Study texts written now and back through the centuries to the Middle Ages. Read works written in England, the Pacific, India, the United States, New Zealand—and many other countries.
From your first year you'll be taught by lecturers who have won international respect for their research. Your lectures and tutorials will be enlivened with film clips, images, readings, and theatrical performances. Regular tutorials encourage you to discuss your responses with your lecturers and fellow students.
Take advantage of the flexibility the University offers to follow your own interests—choose to focus on a broad range of literature, or specialise in a particular period such as the Renaissance or the 19th century, or a particular genre like writing for children. You can also include certain courses in Theatre and Creative Writing.
If you love literature, and want to develop new skills in interpretation and communication, then English Literature is right for you.
