'Blockchains and Web3' is a 6-week intensive course covering topics surrounding Blockchain technologies such as Smart Contracts, Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and Distributed Autonomous Organisations (DAO). The course focuses on understanding design paradigms and delivering technical tuition in relation to fundamental theories of Blockchain, and its current and upcoming impact on our society.

Course content

This course is primarily delivered in-person but online engagement is available in scheduled classes for students who, at the time of enrolment, registered as distance students (off-campus or overseas). Limited online engagement may also be provided to students in special circumstances.
 
Throughout the course students will learn how to pitch, prototype and launch a project incorporating theories and practice surrounding Blockchains and Decentralized Applications (dApps), while taking a Design-led lens to both research and creation.
 
As this course is open for enrolment from all Faculties, students will be able to work in multi-disciplinary teams to discuss and produce content relevant to this new and exciting field of study. 

Course learning objectives

Students who pass this course should be able to:

  1. Use Blockchain-based software to resolve and implement a design prototype.

  2. Construct design principles and strategies to assess and critique design work.

  3. Communicate design concepts orally, visually and in writing with clarity and insight.

Class representative

The class representative provides a useful way to communicate feedback to the teaching staff during the course. They also work with the VUWSA Education Office on any academic issues that arise in their course. Reps are elected by students by the third week of classes every trimester. Being a rep requires a weekly commitment.
