Game Design Capstone / Whakatinana ā-Wheako Hoahoa ā-Kēmu

In this course students will develop and build large scale video game concepts in collaborative, interdisciplinary teams. Design students will be collaborating with students from the Graphics and Games major. Students will apply their respective skills and knowledge from previous courses in order to develop a refined playable game output. During production students will document their development, their contribution and critically reflect on their design process. This courses is offered for the first time in 2024.

GAME 390 is an on-campus only course and is not available for distance study. This means all class sessions will be delivered in person at our Te Aro Campus.

Course learning objectives

Students who pass this course should be able to:

  1. Identify, scope, and articulate a design project and brief.

  2. Develop and implement design methods, techniques, and strategies.

  3. Communicate designs and critical perspectives through text, visual material, and appropriate design tools and formats.

  4. Critically reflect on personal design objectives and outcomes in the wider discipline, specifically focusing on designing in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Class representative

The class representative provides a useful way to communicate feedback to the teaching staff during the course. They also work with the VUWSA Education Office on any academic issues that arise in their course. Reps are elected by students by the third week of classes every trimester. Being a rep requires a weekly commitment.
