Catherine Day Visiting Artist
In May 2012, artist Catherine Day undertakes a three-week residency at Wai-te-ata Press.
In May 2012, artist Catherine Day undertakes a three-week residency at Wai-te-ata Press to design and letterpress print a collection of ten poems entitled Gnossienne by award-winning NZ poet and writer Pat White produced when he was the 2010 Randell Cottage Fellow.
The poems have been translated into French by Nadine Ribault, the first French writing resident at Randell Cottage, in collaboration with Dr Jean Anderson of the NZ Centre for Literary Translation.
During Pat's tenure, Catherine produced a series of coloured pencil rubbings of the floorboards to complement the poems. These rubbings and the printed poems will be exhibited at Aratoi in Masterton, late October to November 2012. In addition to a high-quality exhibition catalogue, ten handprinted and numbered folios of the work, each with one of Catherine's original drawings, will be sold as collector’s items.
This project is part of the fiftieth anniversary celebrations of the Wai-te-ata Press.
