Electronics –
From smartphones to drones—study electronic and electrical systems and learn to design and build the systems that are shaping our world.
You can focus on Electronics either in a Bachelor of Engineering (BE Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a Bachelor of Science (BSc) with a major in Electronics and Computer Systems. The BE(Hons) is a four-year, fully accredited professional qualification that includes a fourth-year project and work experience.
Learn the fundamentals of mathematics, physics, computer science and electronic design and then specialise in areas like robotics, renewable energy, machine learning, electronics and communication engineering.
In your first and second year, you’ll build the mathematical and engineering conceptual basis of your degree. Gain core engineering skills, and learn how to apply them to the design and development of new electrical and electronic technologies.
In your third and fourth years you’ll put your skills into practice, with open-ended assignments that help you use the theoretical and physical tools that you developed in your first two years. In labs, you’ll use trial and error to test your models and discover—does it work like it does on paper? Or are there real-life implications that are hard to see in a model?
During your studies you will learn professional skills such as ethics and project management, while also gaining hands-on industry experience with up to 800 hours of work experience.
If you want to help create the technologies that are shaping our modern world—rather than just buying the newest smartphone—then choose Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Wellington is a unique place for students to study and live. You’ve got access to such a wide range of activities—both at the University and in the city.
