Academic requirements
To be accepted into this programme you will need
:At least two years of professional work experience within the public service such as government, not-for-profit groups, iwi, and public sector service providers
To be accepted by the academic programme leader as capable of proceeding with the proposed course of study

For this programme you’ll need to:
Complete 180 points, including:
Part 1:
Part 2: 75 further points from the MPM/MPP schedule or approved alternatives. Specialisations are possible (see below).
Other approved 400-500 level courses
Part 3:
Important information
- The head of school may exempt from any Part 1 course a candidate who has mastered the material covered in that course through previous study and/or practical experience. Credit may be awarded where the previous study involved postgraduate courses not credited to a completed qualification; otherwise, the candidate shall replace exempted courses with approved electives of equivalent value.
- To enrol in Part 3, a candidate shall normally have completed Parts 1 and 2.
- A candidate who fails two or more courses, or who fails one course twice, will need the permission of the Head of School to continue in the programme.
- The MPM may be awarded with or without a subject specialisation.

Specialisations
Within the Master of Public Management, you can choose a specialisation in an area of interest. To qualify for a specialisation, you need to include at least 45 points in approved courses at 400- or 500-level.
