Graphic Design and Photography / Hoahoa Whakanikoniko me te Whakaahuatanga

This course explores the basics of graphic design and photography through hands-on projects. Students are introduced to professional design practice through the use of a brief, design processes, and critique. Using design software, as well as sketching and photography, students will produce a variety of visual works that express visual identity and voice.

DSDN151 is an on-campus only course and is not available for distance study. This means all class sessions will be delivered in person at our Te Aro or Te Auaha Campus. 

This course explores contemporary Graphic Design and Photography building on foundational skills introduced across First Year courses.
 

 

Course learning objectives

Students who pass this course should be able to:

  1. Communicate design exploration with an appreciation of historical and contemporary approaches

  2. Develop graphic and photographic design ideas through research, iteration, and self-assessment.

  3. Present solutions clearly in visual, verbal, and written form.

Class representative

The class representative provides a useful way to communicate feedback to the teaching staff during the course. They also work with the VUWSA Education Office on any academic issues that arise in their course. Reps are elected by students by the third week of classes every trimester. Being a rep requires a weekly commitment.
