The seminar was held on 22 October 2009 at the Wood Seminar Room, Old Kirk, Kelburn Campus, Victoria University.

It addressed the developments to establish such a framework in the course of reform and opening up in the past 30 years and examine some inherent conflicts in the so-called socialist market economy and their impacts on the state sector reform, foreign investment and the growth of domestic private economy.

Professor Zhang is Associate Professor and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Law, Hong Kong University, specializes in commercial law, Chinese law and comparative law. He has extensive publications in both international and local journals including journals in mainland china. He is the editor of WTO Rules and Economic and Legal Relations among Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan (2003) and Introduction to Chinese Law (1997).
