Schools

The Wellington Faculty of Architecture and Design Innovation consists of two schools—the Wellington School of Architecture and the School of Design Innovation.

These schools contribute to the degrees and programmes of the Wellington Faculty of Architecture and Design Innovation at undergraduate, postgraduate and post-experience levels.

Wellington School of Architecture—Te Kura Waihanga

The Wellington School of Architecture offers specialist study options in architecture, building science, interior architecture and landscape architecture at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Most specialisations contain practical studio components, tutorials, lectures and field work in each year of study.

The School is actively engaged in national and international research programmes and led by respected academic staff. These initiatives attract students from all over the world.

School of Design Innovation—Te Kura Hoahoa

The School of Design Innovation offers exciting undergraduate programmes that are an excellent foundation in the essentials of design. The in-built flexibility allows study in areas of specific interest, such as design for social innovation (design history and theory), industrial design and media design (digital). It also encourages cross-disciplinary study with other subjects that the University has to offer, in the form of a minor subject.

Students can continue with postgraduate study within the range of programmes that the School has to offer. Postgraduate students benefit from the excellent facilities and the support of highly regarded and dedicated staff. Graduates gain places for further study at overseas universities and are sought after by employers, both in New Zealand and further afield.

Location

The Schools are located at Te Aro campus, 139 Vivian Street. The main reception desk is on level 1.

All courses are taught at Te Aro campus except for some first year Bachelor of Architectural Studies courses, taught at Kelburn campus (see details in online course catalogue).
