Staff invited to learn about the Green Impact programme

The international Green Impact programme is running in New Zealand for the first time this year and Victoria University of Wellington is one of the first two New Zealand universities (the other is Otago) to join. Over 400 organisations have participated in the last 10 years, including the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, London School of Economics and The University of Melbourne.
“This change and engagement programme helps people understand sustainability and social responsibility, shows them what they can do to make a difference, and supports them in achieving these actions,” says the University’s Sustainability Director Andrew Wilks.
Staff members form teams and can choose what they want to achieve for 2019 from a list of tasks which have been customised for this university. Tasks are as simple as ordering sustainable stationery and Fair-trade coffee to engaging team activities such as using sustainable commuting options or participating in a fundraising event like a clothing drive.
The University senior leadership team is leading the way by creating the first Green Impact team and they’ve already ticked off their first task: “at least one live, potted plant per five people in the office”.
