Minors in the Bachelor of Biomedical Science

A minor is an optional additional area of focus for a degree. All BBmedSc subjects are available as minors.

A minor is made up of a collection of courses in a subject. The workload for a minor is lighter than for a major—fewer courses to do, fewer points required. This makes a minor a good way to build a second or third area of focus into your degree. Find out more about how minors work.

Minors in the BBmedSc are made up of at least 60 points from the relevant subject area at 200-level or above. At least 15 of those points must be at 300-level and not counted towards a major or another minor.

You can include a minor from another degree in your BBmedSc degree, but there is are exceptions if you are a BBmedSc or BSc student:

  • you can’t minor in Biology, Biotechnology or Cell and Molecular Bioscience if you are doing a BBmedSc.
  • if you are doing a BSc in Biology, Biotechnology or Cell and Molecular Bioscience you can’t do a minor from the BBmedSc.

Subjects in the Bachelor of Biomedical Science have special requirements and course options as minors. Explore these minors below.

Human Genetics (HGEN)

Including a minor in Human Genetics will give you the skills and vocabulary to understand how genetic systems work—how genes are encoded and interpreted correctly.

Requirements

Complete the following courses:

Complete at least 15 further points at 200-level or above from the Human Genetics major.

Molecular Pathology (MOLP)

The Molecular Pathology minor looks at the structure of organs and how diseases are caused at a system level. You'll also look at what happens to tissue and organ function when diseases take over the body.

Requirements

Complete the following courses:

Complete at least 15 further points at 200-level or above from the Molecular Pathology major.

Molecular Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry (MPMC)

Including a minor in Molecular Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry will give you a solid grounding in how drugs work within a living system.

Requirements

Complete the following courses:

Complete at least 15 further points at 200-level or above from the Molecular Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry major.
