Didn't get UE? Prepare for degree-level study

There are study options available if you have not achieved University Entrance or do not meet undergraduate entry requirements or English language requirements.

Provisional Admission

The Provisional Admission category provides direct admission to Bachelor’s degrees under an initially restricted programme of study. In the first trimester, you will be supported to develop core skills that will set you up for success in your degree and additional support will be provided throughout your first year.

Pre-degree programmes

Diploma in Māoritanga/Tohu Māoritanga

Get a foundation in Māori language, culture and society, as well as the academic study skills you need for starting an undergraduate degree.

Diploma in University Studies (Pasifika Pathways)

Engage with Pasifika perspectives and get the foundational skills needed for undergraduate study.

Foundation Studies Programme

Our Foundation Studies Programme will help international students who don’t meet our entry requirements to prepare for undergraduate study.

English language preparation

If English is not your first language, we offer the English for Academic Purposes programme (EAP) to develop academic language skills to succeed in your chosen undergraduate or postgraduate programme.

The EAP is offered both on campus and online, and it is open to international students and domestic students.

Introductory courses

If there are courses you want to take but you don’t have the right background from your school studies then we offer introductory or bridging courses.

You don’t need to have completed any previous courses to apply—they’re available to both new and current students, and you’ll gain the necessary requirements and be better prepared for further study in your chosen subject.

To find out if you need to take an introductory course for your degree, contact our Future Student Advisers.

Secondary school students

If you wish to enrol in an introductory course over the summer while waiting for your NCEA results, you’ll need to supply a personal statement outlining your reasons for doing so when submitting your application. Your enrolment for the next year will still depend on you gaining University Entrance.
