Student parking

Find out what student parking is available on campus and what rules and regulations apply to parking on campus.

Student parks

Victoria University of Wellington Students’ Association (VUWSA) manage a small number of student parks around the Kelburn campus. For more information, email kelburn@vuwsa.org.nz.

On street parking

If you drive to Kelburn, you can park on the street and use a City Council parking coupon. Buy these in advance from any convenience store. Most of the parking nearby is time-limited.

At Te Aro and Pipitea campuses there are several parking areas within walking distance of the campus, run by Wellington Council.

Pay and display

There are 94 Pay and Display parks available for visitors, staff and students located along Waiteata Road, and 15 located behind 16 Kelburn Parade.

Prices range from $3 an hour to $11 a day (7 am–7 pm), with a $0.50 credit card transaction fee.

Mobility car parking

Mobility car parking is available for students with disabilities through Disability Services.

Reserved spaces

Reserved parks on all campuses are restricted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Motorcycle parks

Permits are not required for motorcycles. A number of designated areas have been provided for motorcycles and scooters:

  • Roof of von Zedlitz service tower off Glasgow Street
  • Laby—under building at south end
  • Ring Road—motorcycle deck behind Rankine Brown
  • 85 Fairlie Terrace.

It is recommended that motorcyclists lock their bikes and take their personal property—including helmets with them.

Parking rules and regulations

Parking procedures

The University’s Parking Procedures include all the rules and regulations around parking on Victoria University of Wellington campuses and are the first point of information for anything to do with parking on campus.

Speed

The University campus precincts are pedestrian areas with vehicle access restricted to a maximum speed of 15 kilometres per hour (15 kph).

Illegal parking

Any vehicle found parked illegally on reserved spaces, yellow lines, disability spaces, on the grass, in designated service areas, blocking fire egresses or on non-marked spaces is liable to be ticketed, clamped or towed at the owner's risk and expense.

Parking across entranceways within the University precincts is prohibited. Doorways and/or emergency exits must never be obstructed by any vehicle—including cars, bicycles, scooters and motorcycles.

Penalties for illegal parking

Any vehicle illegally parked on campus is liable to be ticketed, or towed at the owner’s risk and expense.

Park at your own risk

The University takes no responsibility for any vehicles, bikes, scooters or motorcycles parked on university-controlled property, whether or not vehicles are parked in designated parking areas. Owner’s park at their own risk and the University does not accept any responsibility for damage to, or theft of vehicles while parked on university grounds.
