Drag quiz night—UniQ

Come along for an evening of fun-filled quizzing. Hosted by King Markiss, this free event will have you testing your knowledge and laughing along with your peers. If that isn’t enough, there will be prizes for the top 3 winners. So, whether you have a team or not, all are welcome to enjoy this incredible start to our Te Herenga Waka Pride Festival.

Movie night—UniQ

The second day of our Pride Festival will consist of a viewing of the 2023 film Mutt. This drama-filled, heartfelt film is sure to get you in the feels, so come along, bring your friends, and enjoy some free snacks with us.

Pride Zumba class—UniQ and University Recreation

This Pride Festival, we want to promote exercise and body positivity for queer folk. We have arranged for a free Pride Zumba class—led by a University Recreation instructor—to help get you moving and feeling good in your body. Bring some friends, get sweaty, and have a great time.

Gayla—UniQ

The night you have all been waiting for. With music, dancing, speeches from UniQ’s exec, and a photo booth, UniQ’s annual Queer Ball will be a night to remember. For just $20 you can be a part of the action and dance the night away in the Hunter Lounge.

Panel: Queerness in the Workplace—VUW Careers and Employment & VUW BA Society

Wanting to know about rainbow support within the workforce? Keen to meet and network with like-minded individuals and explore potential career opportunities? Bring your friends and come along to the Queerness in the Workplace event, brought to you by the Victoria University Arts Society (The BA Society). Learn about the rainbow community's experiences within their field of work and what the workforce might look like for you after you finish your studies. Engage with the panelists with any questions you might have over refreshments.

Queer zine night—Zine Club

Ever wanted to make a queer zine? Come along and create one at this Zine Club event! Collaborate with your peers to unleash your creativity and make friends as you go. All art materials are provided.

Rainbow Market—VUWSA

A Rainbow Market, hosted by VUWSA, will light up The Hub featuring rainbow groups and organisations from the wider Wellington community. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to connect, learn, and engage with the support and services available to the Rainbow community here in Wellington.

Queer Activism and Intersectionality: Histories in Action—Rainbow Research Network

Intersectional perspectives play a critical role in mobilising queer activism to effect social change and drive action. But what makes activism meaningful? How do we organise and sustain communities and political movements? And what responsibilities do contemporary activists have to carry out the legacies of our queer and trans ancestors? Come along to listen to speakers including Dr Julie Douglas (TEU) and Maria Ni Fhlatharta (Disabled Women Ireland), and stick around for some light refreshments.

Pride quiz—The Bubble

Come along and join in with this pride quiz in The Bubble. Be tested on rainbow history, facts and general knowledge from Aotearoa and beyond. Bring your friends, get cozy, grab some free fruit and hot drinks and prepare to be quizzed on everything rainbow. Reconnect with the nostalgia of a Kahoot quiz and go after the brownie points that will go to the team with the best name. This event is super chill, but not one you will want to miss out on.

Halls Pizza and Pride—Interhall Rainbow Committee

Kia ora to all residents in first year halls*! You are invited to an evening of pizza and games. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet residents from other halls and celebrate Pride all together.

Gaylidh—VicFolk

A queerful take on Vicfolk's regular Ceilidh dances, this event is for LGBTQ+ Victoria Uni students and allies. No dance experience is needed—bring all your left feet. The night will consist of Irish set dancing with step-by-step instructions given for each dance. Beat the Winter shivers by dancing the night away with the Vicfolk band for just $10 per person. All proceeds are going towards UniQ and the student Rainbow Wellbeing Peer Support roopu. Proudly sponsored by Mauri Ora—Student Health and Counselling and Manawa Ora—Student Wellbeing.

Colour and creativity—The Bubble

Let your creativity flow at our rainbow-themed crafting afternoon in The Bubble. Come along and paint, draw, colour in, knit, crochet, or do whatever other creative activity you wish. You are welcome to bring your own project to work on or you can try any of the aforementioned activities—as materials for these will be provided. Express yourself and let your creativity loose while connecting and creating with others.

LGBTQIA+ Psychology—PPSA and PsycSoc

Join PPSA and PschSoc in engaging with Lee Bravestone who will speak about being LGBTQIA+ in the psychological field, and their research. Lee (they/them) has nearly 20 years of experience as a Queer activist and advocate. In addition, they previously worked as a social studies and theatre teacher in a variety of settings. Since moving to Aotearoa in 2017, Lee’s activism has shifted to academia and helping their community in a new, more systemic way. For their PhD, they focus on bringing queer theory into sexism research with the goal of creating a new, more inclusive concept of sexist ideology and how it can be measured.

Writing love letters to yourself—The Bubble

Come on into The Bubble and write yourself a love letter! This is a wonderful way to promote reflection, self-love, and self-acceptance. Take a mindful moment and give yourself the gift of your own love and empowerment. This will be a lovely way to conclude our Pride Festival.

Pride Bingo—Thursdays in Black

Come along to join Thursdays in Black in their event: Pride bingo. Light snacks will be provided while you are taken through three rounds of fun. Bring your friends and your A-game as there are prizes to be won! Gold coin entry.
