Costs and registration
Find out how much it costs to use the services at Mauri Ora, including appointments with doctors and counsellors.
Students registered with Student Health receive free routine medical appointments. We recommend your register as soon as you can, and before your first appointment. You're eligible to register if you're a New Zealand citizen, a resident visa or permanent resident visa holder, or fall under another category listed on the second page of our enrolment form.
International students
We welcome all international students who want to make Student Health their first option for all of their health needs. Charges do apply for international students, although costs may be covered by your insurance. If you have any difficulties with making a payment, please call 04 463 5308 or email mauriora@vuw.ac.nz and ask for our team lead of administration to discuss payment options.
If you are an international student insured with the Studentsafe insurance scheme, Mauri Ora may be able to bill the insurer directly for most of your visits, in accordance with your coverage. Please be aware that there are circumstances where direct billing is not possible (such as consultations regarding contraception, STI/sexual health testing and pre-existing conditions), so these will need to be paid to Mauri Ora on the day of your appointment.
Other insurance companies cannot be billed in this way, so you'll need to pay on the day of your appointment, and then claim reimbursement later from your insurer. If you're unsure if this applies to you, ask when you book your appointment.
