Mary Allan

About

Kia Ora. My name is Mary. I identify as a New Zealand bisexual, cisgender female and prefer she/her pronouns.

I am a social worker and addictions and mental health counsellor. I grew up in Wellington and completed a B.A in Psychology and a Master’s in Social Work here at Victoria University of Wellington.

I went on to work as a Probation Officer and alcohol and drug counsellor which sparked my interest in studying addictions and mental health. I completed a Post Grad Diploma in Health Sciences through Otago University in 2001. I have worked in a variety of settings with people from all walks of life including prisons and residential alcohol and drug services.

I started my career as a Youth line volunteer. I am lucky to be a mum to two teenagers. I live on the Kapiti Coast and I love swimming in the ocean, running, road trips and reading.

I enjoy working with young people and students and I believe that we all have our own creative genius. I use a variety of counselling styles and I am passionate about psychodrama, mindfulness and the mind-body connection. I am registered with DAPAANZ and am working towards my registration with NZSWRB.
