Applying to the host university

Find out about about the steps involved in applying to a host university once you've received your nomination.

The Wellington Global Exchange team will send you instructions on how to complete your host university application.

Every university adheres to its own timeline and application process, which will vary by university, country, and region. Some applications will be online and some will have paper forms you will need to scan or post to the university.

  • Sometimes host universities will contact you directly to submit the application, so be sure to check your student email address (including your junk/spam folders).
  • Every university has its own application process and deadlines, so it is best not to compare your progress to that of other students.
  • Be aware that you may be asked to provide supplementary documents such as:
    • your official Victoria University of Wellington transcript in hard copy. (You can order this here. It can take up to 10 working days for your faculty to process your order.)
    • proof of sufficient funds to cover living expenses
    • portfolios of your work (for example, Architecture and Design students).

Host application due date

There will be a firm deadline to submit your host application. If you miss this deadline, it can adversely affect the outcome of your application. Once you have completed your application, the Wellington Global Exchange team will courier it to your host university (if hard copies are required).

Official acceptance to host university

It can take a couple of months for overseas host universities to process your application. We will let you know as soon as we are notified. Sometimes host universities send acceptance letters directly to students, in which case be sure to forward a copy to us at Wellington Global Exchange.

Your exchange is not confirmed until you have received an acceptance letter from the host university. Once you've been accepted by the host university, you should forward your acceptance to the Wellington Global Exchange team and work to complete the Pre-departure checklist.
