Wellington Faculty of Architecture and Design Innovation
Wellington School of Architecture
Undergraduate students can go on student exchange at any time in second or third year. If you go in your final trimester, you'll need to have completed the minimum core requirements prior to leaving and have done at least half your 300-level major, minor and degree requirements at Victoria University of Wellington.

Postgraduate students can go on exchange in the first trimester of their first year of:
Master's elective courses must be at Master's level at the host university.
Wellington School of Design Innovation
Undergraduate students can go on student exchange at any time in second or third year. If you go in your final trimester, you'll need to have completed the minimum core requirements prior to leaving and have done at least half your 300-level major, minor and degree requirements at Victoria University of Wellington.

Wellington Faculty of Engineering
Undergraduate students
You can normally go on exchange in your second year or with faculty approval, in the third year of study. For a professional programme such as engineering, you can't go in your final trimester as this is your project year and honours year.
Postgraduate students
Postgraduate diplomas, first year of the Master of Computer Science and Master of Science in Computer Science or Electronic and Computer Systems are possible for exchange. The Master of Engineering is a research degree and exchange is not available.

Wellington Faculty of Health
Undergraduate students can go on exchange in:
- Trimester Two only of second year
- Trimester One only of third year
Exchange is currently only available for Wellington Faculty of Health students studying in the Bachelor of Health degree programme. Bachelor of Health students need to complete at least half their 300-level major and degree requirements at Victoria University of Wellington to be eligible to graduate. Exchange is an option for any of the following Bachelor of Health majors:

Wellington Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
You can go on student exchange at any time in your second or third year. If you go in your final trimester, you'll need to have completed the minimum core requirements prior to leaving and have done at least half your 300-level major, minor and degree requirements at Victoria University of Wellington.

Faculty of Law
Undergraduate students
You can go on exchange when you have completed all compulsory courses—LAWS 121, LAWS 122, LAWS 123, LAWS 211, LAWS 212, LAWS 213, LAWS 214, LAWS 297, LAWS 301 and LAWS 312.
If you’re going on exchange in your last trimester of study, graduation may be delayed if host transcripts are not sent promptly. It is the responsibility of the student to request an expedited transcript from their host institution if they wish to meet the graduation deadline.
When selecting your courses, make sure they:
- Are taught in a law school and have a significant legal component.
- Are at the equivalent level of our ‘upper level’ third-year level electives or higher, rather than lower level introductory or foundation courses (unless exchange students are limited to a specific and limited programmes of courses).
- Do not include subject matter that roughly covers the same subject as one you have already taken, or intend to take, at Victoria University of Wellington.
Bachelor of Laws with Honours students
Bachelor of Laws with Honours students can take only 300-level law courses on exchange. You must discuss the academic timing of your exchange with the Honours Programme Coordinator as you will need to complete a full-year 500-level course in your final year of study.

Master of Laws
Students enrolled in the Master of Laws degree cannot go on exchange.

Wellington Faculty of Science
Undergraduate students
You can normally go on student exchange in your second year or third year of study. Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Biomedical Science students normally need to complete at least half their 300-level major and degree requirements at Victoria University of Wellington before graduating.
Postgraduate students
Postgraduate diplomas, the first year of a research Master’s programme or a semester of a taught Master’s are possible for student exchange. It is not available for the one year Bachelor of Science with Honours and Bachelor of Biomedical Science with Honours programmes.
Due to an intensive programme structure, it is not possible to go on exchange as part of the Postgraduate Diploma in Geographic Information Science and the Masters in Geographic Information Science.

Wellington School of Business and Government
Undergraduate students
Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) students normally need to have completed the seven core BCom courses, especially FCOM 111 before going on an exchange. You may however apply prior to completing these requirements on the basis that you will have completed them before your exchange begins.
You can go in your second or third year. Only one 300-level course per major can be credited back towards your BCom. It is best to aim to do unspecified credit on exchange (earning general points towards your degree) rather than major requirements.
MBA students
There are exchange opportunities for MBA students at selected universities.
