New Zealand's Maritime Security: Emerging Challenges and Opportunities
On 13 June 2024, the Centre for Strategic Studies hosted the third triennial Maritime Security Symposium in Wellington.
The day-long conference opened with an address from Hon. Matt Doocey, who launched a refreshed New Zealand Maritime Security Strategy. More than 250 people attended and the programme included speakers from across New Zealand, Australia, the Pacific and Asia.
Themes included the future of the maritime domain for defence; challenges from transnational crime, the evolution of international law, challenges and opportunities for maritime security in the South Pacific; the blue economy, and threats and opportunities presented by emerging technologies.
