Karen - Manager Heritage
Karen has had a varied career in the Heritage Sector and now is in a management role at Heritage New Zealand.
Area Manager Central East, Central Regional Office, Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga
After completing my Masters of Museum and Heritage Studies in 2008 I worked in the collection store of the Wellington Museum, which flowed on from my front of house role, and practical placement, at that institution during the course. Also as a result of practicum work and contacts gained during my time doing Museum and Heritage Studies, I was then employed by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust (now Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga) doing research and heritage assessments on everything from 1870s country churches to 1980s railway viaducts.
I then worked at the IPENZ (Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand) as a Heritage Advisor, and undertook contract work for HNZ and other organisations for the balance of my working week. As the Heritage Advisor I researched and wrote heritage assessments, but I was also responsible for website content, and I was involved in policy and procedure development.
I am now working for Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga as the Area Manager Central East, in the Central Regional Office which is based in Wellington.
