Postgraduate study

The Stout Research Centre offers postgraduate qualifications in New Zealand Studies, New Zealand History, and Museum and Heritage Studies.

The Centre’s research-driven qualifications include Master’s and PhD by thesis in New Zealand Studies, and postgraduate supervision of disciplines such as history and heritage studies. Interdisciplinary topics are encouraged and can be co-supervised across the University.

Postgraduate study at the Centre is particularly appropriate if you are interested in combining disciplines such as history and social sciences, or New Zealand research problems best unlocked by an interdisciplinary approach, such as Crown-Māori relations. Postgraduate students are supervised by internationally recognised scholars in a dedicated research environment.

The Centre’s Museum and Heritage Studies programme offers a unique combination of theory and practice, with a range of flexible postgraduate qualifications which balance taught classes and work experience, academic research and professional skills.
