Online Treaty Research series
In 2012, changes to Victoria University of Wellington's research funding system necessitated suspending production of the Treaty of Waitangi Research Unit's three publications series: the refereed Rangatiratanga and Occasional Papers series, and the Historical Document series. As a result, TOWRU has embarked upon a new venture, an online Treaty Research Series. This incorporates some papers which were previously available online on the TOWRU site and which have been regularly cited in secondary literature.
Future papers for the series will be selected by an editorial board based at Victoria University of Wellington, comprising Peter Adds (Head of School, Te Kawa a Māui), Brigitte Bönisch-Brednich (Professor of Anthropology) and Richard Hill (Professor of New Zealand Studies, and Director of TOWRU). The sole selection criterion for publication will be a paper's usefulness for contributing to scholarship and debate on Treaty of Waitangi issues and, more broadly, on issues relating to indigeneity within New Zealand or (if in some way relevant to New Zealand) internationally.
Academic submissions will be put through a rigorous refereeing process. As well as scholarly papers, the board will also consider publishing outputs not normally hosted in scholarly journals - such as position papers, discussion papers and 'think pieces', and conference presentations, together with 'historical documents' of various types which the editorial team deems worthy of further dissemination.
Papers selected for this series will be arranged chronologically, in order of their first publication date. The editorial board welcomes submissions, which should be emailed to the Administrator, Stout Research Centre, for New Zealand Studies (stout-centre@vuw.ac.nz), with 'Submission for Treaty Research Series' entered in the subject line.
