Doctor of Philosophy
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme involves three to four years of individually supervised research, culminating in the preparation of a thesis that is subject to external assessment and an oral examination. Students are registered provisionally for up to 12 months. Transition from provisional to full registration depends on the satisfactory completion of a written research proposal, in this School typically of up to 10 pages.
The Faculty of Graduate Research (FGR) provides a first contact point for all students enrolling in a PhD at Victoria University of Wellington. The Faculty website provides application forms, details of available funding, application dates and answers to frequently asked questions.
The FGR administers all PhD degrees across the university and all prospective PhD students should apply by the following deadlines:
- 1 March
- 1 July
- 1 November.
International students should also contact Wellington University International.
Prospective PhD students should contact an appropriate staff member to determine whether the topic they would like to research for their thesis can be supervised by the School. Current thesis topics and supervisors indicate areas of research interest and study.
More information about the PhD is on the Wellington Faculty of Science website.
