Master of Commerce
Overview
The School of Marketing or International Business offers Master's-level study for the Master of Commerce (MCom) degree in Marketing or International Business. There is a 180-point MCom (for students who have not yet completed honours or an equivalent qualification) and a 120-point MCom (for those who have).
180-point Master of Commerce
The 180-point MCom follows on from a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in the same subject area, or a similar degree. In addition to 90 points of taught courses (including study of relevant research methods), it involves a research thesis. This degree is a good choice for graduates in MARK or IBUS seeking to complete a Master’s degree in 12 -15 months (full time).
Marketing
To enrol in the 180-point MCom in Marketing you need to have completed either:
- a BCom degree including 45 points from MARK 300 - 399, with a grade average of B+ or better in the 200 and 300-level MARK courses; or
- a suitable alternative degree (or the equivalent in extensive and appropriate practical, professional or scholarly experience).
To complete the 180-point MCom in Marketing, you need to take:
- MARK401 and 405
- two courses from Mark 402-404, 406 and 410
- two further courses from MARK401 - 489, MMCA 401, IBUS 401 – 489, INFO 401-404, MGMT401, COML401 – 403 or other approved Honours courses
- MARK 592 (90 point thesis).
International Business
To enrol in the 180-point MCom in International Business you need to have completed either:
- a BCom degree including IBUS 305 and 312, with a grade average of B+ or better in the 200 and 300-level IBUS courses; or
- a suitable alternative degree (or the equivalent in extensive and appropriate practical, professional or scholarly experience).
To complete the 180-point MCom in International Business, you need to take:
- IBUS 401 and 405
- two courses from IBUS 402 – 408
- two further courses from IBUS 401 - 489 or other approved Honours Courses
- IBUS 592 (90 point thesis: word count approximately 30,000 words).
120-point Master of Commerce
The 120-point MCom in Marketing or International Business follows a previous Bachelor of Commerce with Honours (BCom(Hons)) in the same subject area, or a similar honours degree.
To enrol in the 120-point MCom in Marketing or International Business, you need to have completed either:
- a BCom(Hons) in MARK or IBUS with First Class Honours (or Second Class, Division 1); or
- a similar alternative degree (or the equivalent in extensive and appropriate practical, professional or scholarly experience).
The 120-point Master's degree requires completion of a 120-point research thesis (120 point thesis: word count approximately 40,000 words).
