Profile

Alexander is an MA Candidate in Classical Studies researching ancient Greek ritual and religion. For his MA he is examining the evidence for human scapegoat rituals in ancient Greece and exploring different interpretations of these rituals throughout history. Violence and displacement are key themes of the Greek scapegoat rituals which has led to their pejorative identification as primitive and barbaric, largely ignoring the layers of complexity and sophistication present in these rituals.
