Rory McKenzie, PhD candidate in Literary Translation Studies in the School of Languages and Cultures, has recently been awarded the 2018 Jo-Anne Duggan Prize for Best Essay by the Australasian Centre for Italian Studies (ACIS), competing with students throughout New Zealand and across the Tasman.
Twenty-three Classics students are currently soaking up archaeological sites and museums in Greece as part of the Classics programme’s biennial Greek Field Trip.
Congratulations to Va‛aomanū Pasifika (Pacific Studies and Samoan Studies) PhD candidate Jessica Marinaccio who has received a Postgraduate Students Association (PGSA) Research Excellence Award, worth $3,000.

Congratulations to Associate Professor Stephen Epstein from the School of Languages and Cultures, who has won a 2019 PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grant worth US$3,500 for his translation of Intan Paramaditha's novel, Gentayangan: Pilih Sendiri Petualangan Sepatu Merahmu (The Wandering: Choose Your Own Red Shoes Adventure).
Pasifika Haos was filled with food, song, weaving and speeches on Friday 12 October as students in Matā‘upu Tau Samoa (Samoan Studies programme) celebrated Aso o tu ma aga faasamoa—Samoan Culture Day.
