Meet Monica, one of our Film students currently working towards her Bachelor of Arts.

“It’s incredible realising how much you don’t know about film and that drives me to learn more. Sometimes I think I’ve seen a film a million times and know it inside and out, but then I learn something else and my whole perspective of the film changes.”

Choosing the University

For me it was a no-brainer that I’d study at Victoria University of Wellington. It is number one in New Zealand for BAs. I knew it was the place to be if you’re genuinely passionate about working as a creative.

Choosing Film

I’ve been inspired by films at a young age, and I thought, “I’m in Wellywood, why not?”

Getting motivated

Studying Film gave me the motivation to create and plan my own films in my own time, and helped me get a part-time job at an independent cinema.

Why Wellington

In Wellington quirkiness is encouraged—it’s a wonderful place to meet open-minded people who enjoy being pushed out of their comfort zone. Moving here is the best decision I’ve ever made.
