Willem Koller
Meet Willem, one of our Bachelor of Arts graduates who built collaborative connections in their film studies.
What did you gain from your film studies at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington?
Willem: My time at Te Herenga Waka has allowed me to gain confidence with film gear I didn't have access to outside the University. I was guided by staff who are always willing to share their knowledge gained from years of experience. On the theory side, my studies deepened my knowledge of films and filmmakers, which drove me to study film in the first place. They also exposed me to new films, movements, and styles that have widened my perspective.
What kind of relationships did you form in your studies?
Willem: The connections I have made studying film, both with fellow students and staff, have been immeasurably valuable to me in and out of study. The open nature of the courses has allowed us to all grow as filmmakers and form strong collaborative relationships.
How have you used the skills and knowledge you gained in film studies?
Willem: I have utilised the skills I gained as a film graduate to enter the industry through internships I secured thanks to the connections I made during my studies. I also feel more confident in driving my own film projects and fluctuating between production roles.
