International Alumni Fees Waiver
History
The International Alumni Fees Waiver (previously known as Global Alumni Graduate Fees Waiver) celebrates the University's commitment to supporting our international student community.
This Fees Waiver is designed for international students, who completed their first programme of studies at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington and are transferring to a further full-time undergraduate or postgraduate programme. This includes Study Abroad and Exchange students, who choose to return for a full-duration undergraduate or postgraduate programme at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
Eligible international alumni will receive a $5,000 reduction on the first-year tuition fees.
Eligibility criteria
The fees waiver is open to the following applicants:
- Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington international alumni returning for full-time postgraduate taught study, excluding Graduate and Postgraduate Certificates, Certificate of Proficiency, Master by Thesis, PhD, and EAP;
- Exchange and Study Abroad students progressing to a full-time postgraduate taught programme or undergraduate degree.
Applicants must be Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington’s international alumni – i.e. they have completed a programme of studies at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington previously.
Applicants must have an offer of place for a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate programme at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington and must meet any academic and English language conditions attached to their offer as stated in their Offer of Place.
Applicants must be classified as international fee-paying students paying the international tuition fee rate without other discounts, waivers and scholarships applied.
Application process
A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date for the application to be considered.

Selection process
Successful recipients will be chosen by a selection panel from the Wellington University International.
Selection criteria
- Applicants must be a Victoria University of Wellington international alumni returning for a full-time postgraduate study by coursework, Victoria University of Wellington Study Abroad and Exchange students returning for a full-time postgraduate study by coursework or Victoria University of Wellington Study Abroad students transferring to a full-time undergraduate degree or postgraduate programme.
- Applicants must have an offer of place on a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate programme at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington and must meet any academic and English language conditions attached to their offer as stated in their Offer of Place
- Applicants must be classified as international fee-paying students paying the international tuition fee rate without other discounts, waivers and scholarships applied
Additional information
- A $5,000 fee waiver for the first academic year of study (120 points) is awarded to eligible candidates.
- The tuition fee discount will be applied to the recipient's student fees account after the final withdrawal date for the courses of the trimester the recipient has been awarded for (roughly two weeks into the trimester).
Regulations and conditions
- A completed online application must be submitted by 4:30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4:30 pm on the closing date for the application to be considered.
- All offers of the Waiver will be conditional upon the recipient being fully enrolled in a full-time undergraduate degree or postgraduate coursework programme within the stipulated criteria and tenure of the Waiver. The Waiver will not be applied until this condition is met.
- The discount is awarded for the first year of study up to 120 points only and is refunded against paid gross tuition fees upon enrolment.
- Where Victoria University of Wellington has agreed on discounted tuition fees with partner institutions, those students benefiting from these arrangements will not be eligible for this fee waiver.
- This waiver cannot be held in conjunction with any other scholarship from Victoria University of Wellington.
- Students in receipt of full funding from external sponsorship bodies will not be eligible for this waiver.
- The University reserves the right to vary all or any scholarship awards, discounts, and regulations at its sole discretion.
