Expressions of interest are invited from university graduates to work part-time as tutors in undergraduate Criminology, Cultural Anthropology, Sociology, Social Policy, and Study of Religion courses for 2025.

Tutoring

As a tutor, you will facilitate learning through small group discussion and engagement, while maintaining a mutually supportive and respectful safe space. This is a great opportunity while you are studying here at the University. Not only is it a wonderful way for you to become part of the School community but it also gives you a taste of academia.

Being a tutor = employability

Tutoring prepares students for the ever-changing workforce. It helps develop:

  • presentation and teaching skills
  • time-management skills
  • people management skills
  • confidence, a sense of responsibility and leadership skills.

Tutoring also provides the opportunity to obtain a reference from your course coordinator/s when you are applying for jobs. This can help you stand out from other job applicants.

Who should apply

Ideally, we are looking for applicants who have a BA degree or higher. Applications are particularly encouraged from current and prospective postgraduate students (including Honours and MCrim). Tutors help bridge the gap between lecturers and students. We require tutors/marking support to work part-time in the following undergraduate courses:

  • Criminology
  • Cultural Anthropology
  • Sociology, Social Policy
  • Study of Religion

Tutor training

We do our best to help all our tutors feel confident and supported in their tutoring role. Full, paid training will be provided to new tutors.

Positions available

Applications are now open for Trimester 1 and Trimester 2, 2025 courses.
