Applications and projects

Our cutting-edge facilities and innovative modelling improve propulsion efficiency, radiation shielding on orbit, and re-entry heat shielding designs.

Our team is pioneering advancements in propulsion technologies, notably the Kōkako or AF-MPD thruster, which integrates a superconducting magnet for efficiency. Key portions of this technology will be validated for spaceflight during our upcoming Hēki Mission aboard the International Space Station in 2024/25.

In partnership with the Universities of Auckland and Canterbury, the German Aerospace Center, and other international collaborators, we are also leading innovations in radiation shielding, heat shielding for spacecraft reentry, and the complex multi-physics modelling essential for the next generation of space technology.

Join us as we push the boundaries of the known universe.
