Our team
Our team comprises of dedicated researchers passionate about applying science to solve real-world problems.
Our expert team, capabilities, and state-of-the-art facilities
Dr Fiona Stevens McFadden, Principal Engineer and Deputy Director, leads the team focusing on integrating smart sensing, control, and data modelling. Dr Christopher Hollitt specialises in developing mobile robots that autonomously interact with their environments using advanced perception and real-time response capabilities. Our PhD candidates actively contribute to ongoing projects that push the boundaries of robotics research.
We are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including the Clearpath Jackal Robot Platform, which is crucial for developing and testing our solutions. Our outdoor testing areas at Gracefield, and the ability to collaborate more widely with facilities in other parts of the University such as the advanced motion capture facility at the Miramar Creative Centre, provide ideal environments for rigorous testing and development.
Our capabilities extend to expertise in developing sensing hardware, integrating AI and machine learning into sensing, control, and navigation systems, and advanced process control. We are expanding our research to include terrain characterisation and traversability analysis, aiming to enhance robot navigation in even more complex environments.
