Clinical Psychology Centre

Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington’s Clinical Psychology Centre offers short-term assessment and treatment to children, adolescents, and adults.

The Centre is a teaching-based facility for the School's clinical psychology programme. Its purpose is to provide psychological services to the community and to train postgraduate clinical psychology students under the supervision of experienced clinical psychologists.

Services offered by the Centre

We offer assessment and therapy for a wide range of mild-to-moderate problems. Referrals will be screened by Centre staff members to ensure they are suitable for a clinical psychology trainee.

The Centre offers services for:

• anxiety and phobias
• depression
• stress management and life changes
• developmental concerns
• behavioural problems
• sleep problems
• relationship issues including family and parent/child relationships
• parenting and parent support
• ADHD
• learning/cognitive assessments.

Making an appointment

The Victoria University Clinical Psychology Centre functions as a training institute, providing assessment and treatment services to our community.

Due to a limited capacity for referrals each year, we have two designated intake periods, which take place in January/February and April/May. During each intake, we are able to accept around 20 referrals for children and adolescents, and 20 for adults.

Of the accepted referrals, the Clinical Psychology Centre can accommodate only 10 adult ADHD assessment referrals per intake, totalling 20 for the year.

Please be aware that vastly more referrals are received than can be accommodated, and unfortunately, this means that not all referral requests can be accepted.
