Music –
Follow your dream to make music your career or study it to enrich your life. Learn at this country's leader in music education, the New Zealand School of Music—Te Kōkī.
Choose a subject you want to focus on.
Explore music from many angles including cultural, historical, critical, technical and creative. Study Music as part of your Bachelor of Arts (BA) and choose from a wide range of options depending on your interests and experience.
Many courses don't require any prior musical knowledge, including some in non-Western music, music technology, popular music, jazz, classical music, and film music. BA students can also take Performance courses in Māori, Pasifika and Indonesian gamelan music. These will give you the opportunity for cultural learning through making music.
Combine Music courses with your other arts subjects and take the opportunity to explore how music relates to other areas of study.
Many students doing a BA who are interested in Music choose to specialise, or major, in both Music and another subject such as Film, Theatre, a language, English Literature, Media Studies, Mathematics, Psychology or Education.
The BA in Music is different from the Bachelor of Music (BMus), in that you are able to study more subjects outside the discipline of Music.
