Athol Mann Scholarship for Incoming First Year Vocal Students

This scholarship is open to incoming first year New Zealand School of Music students who are intending to major in Classical Voice. Selection will be based on academic merit and vocal potential.

Athol Mann Award for Vocal Students

This scholarship is to support students majoring in Voice at the New Zealand School of Music at Victoria University of Wellington. It will be awarded at the end of the Honours year of study, to support preparation for the student’s audition tour.

Barbara Finlayson Scholarship
Closing date: 1 Oct for school leavers, 15 Nov for everyone else
To support violin, viola and violoncello students at any level. NZSM string staff may also apply. A particular purpose of the scholarship is to fund postgraduate study, as well as travel, accommodation and other expenses incurred in the pursuit of such study, both within and outside New Zealand

Clare Galambos-Winter Scholarships in Violin Performance
Number: One scholarship each at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Closing date: 1 Oct for school leavers, 15 Nov for everyone else
The purpose of these scholarships is to foster the performance careers of exceptionally talented musicians who have demonstrated a strong and clear commitment to a career in violin performance. In years where there is no suitable violin applicant, consideration may be given to an exceptional cellist.
NB: In addition, the late Clare Galambos-Winter endowed NZSM with two fine violins: one to be given to a promising undergraduate violinist and the other to a promising postgraduate violinist to support their performance studies. See under 'Prizes and Awards'.

David and Winifred Bull Scholarship in Vocal Performance

This scholarship is open to New Zealand School of Music Classical Voice students enrolled at the New Zealand School of Music. Applicants will be assessed on their outstanding vocal and academic ability

Deane Music Scholarship

Value: Up to $40,000

This award was established to support a talented Māori or Pasifika musician during their studies at Victoria University of Wellington, who otherwise may not be able to attend university due to financial disadvantage.

Ella C Wilson Music Award
Value: $3000
Closing date: 15 Nov
This award is for female students who have (a) completed a BMus (Hons) degree who intend to complete a MMus degree in Musicology or Composition at NZSM or (b) completed Part I of the MMusTher degree and who intend to complete Part II of the MMusTher degree at NZSM.

Ian Pollard Organ Scholarship

Awarded annually to support talented undergraduate or postgraduate students of the organ.

Margaret Kate Parker Scholarship
Closing date: 31 October
Value: $5,000 subject to funds available
The scholarship will be available annually to a music student demonstrating excellence in performance and with career potential on either piano, voice, strings or woodwind. Preference will be given to undergraduate students from Upper Hutt and the Wellington Region, but applications are open for postgraduates from anywhere across the country.

McKenzie Music Therapy Scholarship

Scholarships for students studying the Master of Music Therapy degree.
- Up to two students who have completed the first year of the Master of Music Therapy degree and who intend to enrol in the second year of this programme; and/or
- one student who has completed the second year of Master of Music Therapy degree and who is eligible to register for PhD studies.

Raye Freedman Scholarship in Holocaust Related Studies

Value: $10,000
Closing Date: 1 November
This scholarship is open to all students working towards a Master's by thesis at Victoria University of Wellington in issues related to the Holocaust or its impacts in contemporary life. This could include research into composers in Germany during holocaust, music and the holocaust, Music in the Nazi camps and ghettos, and more.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Classical Piano Performance

The scholarship is to assist classical pianists entering postgraduate study at either the New Zealand School of Music or an approved overseas institute.

Therle Drake Postgraduate Scholarship

Value: Approximately $12,000 (subject to funds available)
Closing date: 31 Mar and 15 Nov
The scholarship is for postgraduate classical performance overseas study and application should be made in the year for which the project is planned. While the terms of the bequest are that preference be given to a piano student, other applicants will be considered.
This scholarship is open to NZ citizens, permanent residents and international students.

The David Eade Undergraduate Piano Scholarship

Value: $10,000 per year
Closing date: 15 Nov
The scholarship is to assist in the education and training of undergraduate classical piano students at the New Zealand School of Music at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington.
Eligibility:
- This scholarship will be open to undergraduate classical piano students intending to enrol Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music.
- Applicants need to be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.
