General information for all to be aware of:
- Stop / go traffic management will be in place on Kelburn Parade, Glasgow Street and Fairlie Terrace. Please be mindful of this when arranging your transport.
- Parking will be limited all day—please use public transport, taxis, ubers, or carpool wherever you can. YourRide have offered a discount on taxi rides for Friday 6 December. Please use the code VUW25 to get 25% off when booking through the YourRide app.
- There is a second, smaller, invitation-only event from mid-morning at the marae, so there will be increased numbers of people on campus throughout the day.
- Set-up will be happening in The Hub on Thursday.
For those attending the event:
- The event will be going ahead rain or shine. Check the weather forecast and dress accordingly.
- Please bring your own water bottle if you can. This limits the need for disposable cups and bottles. We will have water coolers available for refilling your bottle.
- There will be ushers in hi-vis vests to help guide you and answer any questions you may have.
- You are welcome to take photos and share them on social media. Share your day with us by tagging @VicUniWgtn on Instagram or mentioning us on Facebook.
- You will be led through the building as part of the ceremony, and there are lifts for disability access.
- There will be an emcee who will keep guests informed as the ritual occurs.
- Please gather outside the Easterfield Building on Kelburn Parade by 4.15 am for the start of the 4.30 am dawn ceremony.
- During the ritual, two questions will be asked. The first question will be, “ko wai te ingoa o tēnei whare?” (what is the name of this building?) and this will be responded to by the group. The second question will be, “mō wai tēnei whare?” (who is this building for?) and the answer for the crowd to say is “mō tātou katoa!” (for all of us!). You are encouraged to join in with this part of the ceremony and say these words in response to the second question.
It’s not too late to register to attend. We look forward to having you join us to celebrate this momentous occasion.
