Wellington Town Hall construction continues
Wellington Town Hall strengthening and upgrade is back in action following a mandatory pause during the alert level 4 lockdown for COVID-19 response.
The focus of the work at the moment is internal demolition in preparation for strengthening work, temporary support for walls and floors, and the removal and storage of heritage items such as doors, ceiling panels, and tiles to protect them during construction.
A significant milestone was the completion of demolition in the annex between the Town Hall and Municipal Office building in March, and the breaking through of the Town Hall south corridor to enable large items of machinery to be installed for the next stages of construction inside the Town Hall.
As at 5 May, work is underway on site with all the appropriate health and safety requirements to meet alert level 3 guidelines.
