Bringing the world to Wellington
Star Wars in Concert on 28 April at TSB Bank Arena has the Orchestra perform live to a screening of The Empire Strikes Back. See and hear the film in a whole new way. The dialogue and sound effects remain, but it will be the NZSO performing John Williams’ iconic soundtrack.
For something outside the traditional concert hall, the NZSO will present Responses at Shed 6 on Wellington’s waterfront on 10 May. Conducted by Hamish McKeich, it’s part of the NZSO’s Shed Series, which mixes classic and contemporary music in a relaxed atmosphere where the audience can stand or sit during the performance, and enjoy a drink and a bit to eat at any time.
Love Eternal on 18 May features Danish maestro Thomas Søndergård and acclaimed Russian pianist Denis Kozhukhin. Baroque music features in The Night at Wellington Cathedral of St Paul on 8 June. Internationally-renowned violinist Carolin Widmann is the star soloist for Winter Daydreams on 20 June and pianist Steve Osborne will perform in the Mātauranga concert on 13 July.
A special Beethoven Festival, led by NZSO Music Director and Beethoven expert Edo de Waart will see the composer’s nine symphonies performed over four nights on 28, 29, 30 and 31 August.
