David Long
Film scoring and digital orchestration
David Long composes, performs and produces music, releasing three solo albums, writing for the New Zealand String Quartet and Stroma, a contemporary chamber orchestra and composing for many television dramas and documentaries. He won Achievement in Original Music at the Air New Zealand Film and Television Awards for two years running for his scores for the television series Insider’s Guide to Happiness (2005), and for Insider’s Guide to Love (2006). He is a founding member of the iconic Kiwi rock band The Mutton Birds, and an award-winning album producer for Fur Patrol and Dave Dobbyn.
David has also had a long association with contemporary dance, writing pieces for choreographers such as Douglas Wright, Shona McCullagh and Raewyn Hill. David has worked on all of Sir Peter Jackson’s films over the past decade, often working in collaboration with the musical collective Plan 9. He has composed the score for many feature films including McLaren (Roger Donaldson), Beyond the Edge (Leanne Pooley), The Red House (Alyx Duncan) and contributing additional score for Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones.
