Outside Murphy building on Kelburn Parade, Metlink are completing their final bus shelter works this week (11–17 March). The new living shelter will be opening on Monday 18 March.

Line marking on the street and activation of the digital display will be happening overnight on Sunday 17 March, which means all arriving and departing trips will commence at the new stop from first thing Monday morning.

The temporary bus shelter will be decommissioned from Monday 18 March. Minor disruptions outside 14 Kelburn Parade can be expected during the week while the temporary shelter is removed and the footpath is reinstated.

We thank all bus users and neighbours for their patience while these works have been undertaken.

A Greater Wellington Regional Council project, the new shelter represents a unique collaboration around the principles of a ‘Living Building’.  The westside Kelburn Parade bus stop was originally located at the front of the waharoa (ceremonial entranceway) of Te Herenga Waka Marae. This had to be removed to allow for Living Pā construction works.

The new shelter, now outside Murphy building, is enhanced for accessibility, road safety, and marae ceremony perspectives, and it’s cool. The design and the low-profile living roof reflect Metlink's and Te Herenga Waka’s shared sustainable transport goals and include references to the surrounding area and facilities.
