The Living Pā is a hive of activity with over 100 people on site every day—things are moving fast!
Inside the building contractors are installing acoustic insulation, glazed timber partition walls, kitchen cabinetry and equipment, completing the main stairwells, painting plasterboard walls and ceilings, and much more. Services installs are also being completed in plant rooms, to ensure that the electrical, plumbing, audio-visual, security, and other systems are ready to serve the needs of the living building.
Exterior landscaping works are currently underway, including restoring accessibility pathways, the waharoa (pā entranceway), the marae ātea (open area in front of the wharenui), and the Kelburn Parade rain and greywater recycling gardens.
There will be a period of noise once the concrete has been poured for the ramps and the landscaping boxes in the September – November period. Footpath reinstatement works will cause minor noise disruption during the latter half of October.
On schedule
Construction works will be completed by early November, followed by internal fitout of the furniture, fittings, and digital and audio-visual equipment.
We are delighted to report that the works are on schedule for completion. The Living Pā’s opening ceremony will be held at dawn on 6 December. This event is open to all University staff and students and the public (full details will be released soon).
Thank you all for your patience as we continue these works.
