Applying Māori philosophies and the most stringent building sustainability standards, the Living Pā project directs everybody involved to centre Papatūānuku, and intentionally apply innovative sustainability practices.

We wanted to let you know of some key works taking place during the week of 28 August to allow the application of two of these practices.

Meeting net positive energy target

Solar panels installed on the Living Pā aim to achieve net positive energy. Transformer trenching works are required to enable the pā to feed energy back into our central grid.

These works will take place at the top of Kelburn Parade on Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 August. Kelburn Parade will be restricted to one lane on these dates, and the courtesy crossing on Kelburn Parade will move slightly up the road. The pedestrian protection barriers will be temporarily removed to allow for this. Metal plates will be put across the trench between periods of work.

Meeting net zero water target

The Waste Water Treatment Plant is an important element in achieving the ‘net zero water’ target for the Living Pā.

There will be a further one-lane road restriction on Thursday 31 August to allow water tanks to be lifted in place in front of Murphy Annexe. The southern end columns of the Living Pā building will also be put in place on that day. The bus stop for those travelling uphill will be relocated to the front of Kirk building, and Wellington City Council will close the carparks in that area.

On each of these days, stop-go workers will be present to control the flow of traffic.

This work is likely to be noisy and cause vibration at times. We have scheduled these works during the mid-trimester break to minimise the impact on teaching and learning.

If you would like to discuss this work further, please contact Angela Venn on angela.venn@vuw.ac.nz or 022 021 4285.

Arohamai, we apologies for the disturbance caused by construction works.
