On Thursday 14 September the LT McGuiness crew threw down a hāngī to celebate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori and the year’s theme Kia Kaha te Reo Māori – Making the Language Stronger.
Rawinia was invited to speak about the history of Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori and how students at Te Herenga Waka-Victoria University of Wellington had a pivotal role to play in the initial petition presented to parliament 51 years ago. She then covered a few phrases that are useful for the context of the workers – ngā ringa raupa - on site. The LT McGuiness crew provided signage from the Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori website for everyone to practice a few everyday words and phrases, including everyone’s favourite ‘namunamuā’ – delicious!
