Introduction
Workplace Communication for Skilled Migrants is a non-credit, 1 trimester programme (ELIN 003) to help you understand and develop appropriate communication skills in New Zealand workplaces, to understand employment conditions in New Zealand and to gain New Zealand workplace experience.
Due to a lack of funding, the Skilled Migrant Programme is not being offered in 2024.
How the course will help you
This course will help you to:
- Understand and develop skills in social communication in New Zealand workplaces
- Understand different management styles in New Zealand workplaces and how these styles are reflected in communication
- Understand employment conditions in New Zealand
- Analyse and practise workplace interactions
- Experience New Zealand workplaces through work placements.
Course description

Who is ELIN 003 for?
The course is specifically for recently arrived migrants with a Bachelor degree or higher, whose first language is not English. Migrants' English proficiency level must be good - IELTS 6.0 or above. Migrants must be permanent residents who are currently underemployed or unemployed, been unable to break into the New Zealand job market and have a minimum of three years' work experience in their profession.

Course dates
Although the Skilled Migrant Programme is not being offered currently due to a lack of funding, we hope to be able to offer the programme at some point in 2023. Timetable
This course is full time and consists of six weeks of guided communication skills practice in the classroom and six weeks of work placement.
Final assessment and certificate
A certificate of participation in Workplace Communication for Skilled Migrants will be awarded to students who fulfil mandatory course requirements.

This programme is partly funded by the Settlement Unit, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
