AKENE is the spirit of Ancient Africa, our story is one of passion, perseverance, and relentless dedication to crafting beverages that inspire and invigorate.

Godfrey Okot:

My start up is a registered New Zealand company named AKENE Limited. I plan to produce a traditional non-alcoholic African beverage. The beverage is strong and unique and so my target customers are threefold.

Firstly, individuals who want to experience unique African drinks, these are culturally curious individuals who want to embrace African culture and so I provide them with a simple way to connect with my culture.

Secondly, young people who elect to sober-drive, individuals who want to drink a strong drink and have a good time, where the current alternative is unappealing soft drinks. No one wants to drink soft drinks on a night out. My beverage provides a way sober drivers can enjoy themselves whilst still being able to safely drive at the end of the night. Lastly, Africans in New Zealand who want a taste of the "Dark-Continent" without having to travel to Africa. It is quite a simple drink to create but this is the first time it has been produced in New Zealand, so I want to patent its creation process as soon as possible.
