Thesis Title: Hidden in Hides: The World of Calcutta Leather Industry Labour 1905-1996
A passion for South Asian social and labour history has led Sneha to do her PhD on the multi-layered world of the Calcutta leather industry labour between 1905 to 1996. Applying an interdisciplinary approach, her work explores how the contours of this world shifted along with the socio-political realities of colonial and post-colonial India. Tracing the interconnection between various socio-cultural, political and economic factors, Sneha’s thesis aims to delve into the process of workforce formation in Calcutta leather industry.
