Personal protective equipment (PPE)
You must use the personal protective equipment (PPE) that applies to the work you are doing, and it must be detailed in the risk assessment.
PPE is a one of the weakest forms of risk mitigation and should not be your only way of managing risk. Talk to your University liaison to find out what the expected level of PPE is for the task you are doing.
PPE must be identified, supplied, issued and maintained by the PCBU carrying out the work. If the right PPE is unavailable, the work cannot proceed.
For construction, maintenance or installation related work, the minimum PPE expected is high visibility work clothing and steel cap safety shoes.
Depending on the work or location, you might need additional precautions, such as:
- hard hat
- gloves
- safety glasses
- P2 safety mask.
