Psychology –
Study Psychology to understand behaviour—how we think, feel, and act—and how those processes can go wrong. Learn how our biology and our environment interact to make us who we are.
At Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, we offer a wide range of different Psychology subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Choose a subject to focus on and see what your study options are.
Study in New Zealand’s only postgraduate programme in forensic psychology. You’ll develop a sound understanding of offending behaviour and its effects on victims. You'll also learn the skills necessary to produce and apply psychological theory and evidence to a variety of legal and criminal justice issues.
You’ll work in modern research labs alongside staff who are international leaders in their field. You can also spend time doing fieldwork at forensic agencies and voluntary organisations that provide services for offenders or victims of crime. You’ll explore how forensic psychology relates to policy and practice in areas such as adult corrections, family violence prevention, youth offending, and child eyewitness interviewing.
You’ll graduate with transferable skills and knowledge useful to inform work in various roles, such as a research or policy analyst, psychologist, a rehabilitation programme facilitator, or a police or probation officer. Previous graduates have found employment in a range of settings, including the Department of Corrections, district health boards, police, and the Ministry of Social Development. This programme can also lead to a PhD.
If you have an interest in psychology and criminal justice, then this is an excellent choice for you.
