Psychology –
Study Psychology to understand behaviour—how we think, feel, and act—and how those processes can go wrong. Learn how our biology and our environment interact to make us who we are.
At Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, we offer a wide range of different Psychology subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Choose a subject to focus on and see what your study options are.
Study human behaviour and experience in the context of culture. Discover the impact an individual's or group's culture has on the way they think and act, and compare differences between people from different countries or ethnicities.
Eye contact
The amount of eye contact it's acceptable to have with someone varies greatly between cultures. Some consider it rude or aggressive to look someone in the eye. Others consider it rude not to.
Study the only postgraduate programme in cross-cultural psychology in Australasia. Take advantage of the University's exchange programme with the University of Hawai'i and study in a different cultural environment.
You'll benefit from the programme's strong links to the Centre for Applied Cross-cultural Research (CACR) and the close ties the Centre has with international researchers.
This postgraduate programme will also prepare you to carry out professional research. It's a good choice if you're interested in research or work with culturally diverse groups either in New Zealand or internationally. Graduates might work as researchers or policy analysts in government departments, NGOs, universities (international student divisions), and international development agencies.
