Language Sciences –
Language connects us to people and helps us make sense of the world. Learn about the structure of language and explore how people use it.
Find out about our undergraduate and postgraduate options in Language Sciences, and start your journey at Victoria University of Wellington.
Combine a new language with Language Sciences courses in a single subject. Choose from Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Māori, Sāmoan or Spanish—whichever fascinates you the most.
As you learn to speak and write your new language, you'll also be studying the structure, use and cultural importance of language itself. Gather a set of language and linguistics skills that are attractive to many employers, and will also be especially useful in language-based careers such as translating or interpreting. A thorough grounding in Language Sciences is also helpful if you want to go on to learn more languages.
If you want a comprehensive language package, Modern Language Studies is right for you.
